NYPD Officers Dirty Dancing

Have you seen the Video yet of the NYPD Officers "Dirty Dancing"?

This video is a perfect example that you're always being watched and most likly receorded. I'm sure if these officers knew that they were on camera and they would end up on YouTube, they wouldn't have even thought about acting the way they do.

I will not pass judgement on these officers, but they went beyond the line that I would have drawn.

On this job espicasilly when working Downtown you have women come up to you and try to get pictures with you, wear your hat or dance with you. In those cases you just have to say "Sorry Ladies I can't"

So if you take anything from this, know you are always being watched!!

Farmers Market

The other day we headed down to the local Farmers Market and picked up lots of great veggies for a great price. We picked up some local pears,carrots, lettuce and apples for a fraction of the price that we would have paid at the grocery store.

The thing about Farmers Markets is that you support local farmers, the produce you get alot of the time is organic and the prices on the local stuff is usually better.

Yesterday I was reading a article in Mens Health that referenced the top Farmers Markets in the states.

Here in Halifax we have a great Farmers Market that is the longest running Farmers Market in North America.

The Halifax Farmers market was Founded in 1750, The Halifax Farmers’ Market Cooperative is the oldest continuously running farmers’ market in North America. The first market vendors were Acadian – the original European immigrants to the land. How to Become a Police Officer in the United States of America

The requirements to become a police officer vary from country to country, and though there may be many similarities, it’s important to understand how to become a police officer and the steps necessary to do so based on your specific country’s required standards.

USA:
There are some differences state to state, but generally the minimum requirements to become a police officer in the United States include:
A high school diploma
Successful completion of a physical exam
Successful completion of a written exam
Minimum of 20 years old
Must be a citizen of the USA

In most states prospective officers also need to pass a psychological evaluation, as well as a drug test and possible lie detector test. Given the responsibilities of police officers and the power that comes with the badge, these do not seem to be unreasonable requirements by any stretch of the imagination.

As stated, these are the minimum requirements. Most law enforcement agencies will require additional education which may include a criminal justice degree or other certification. There are many specialties within law enforcement and multiple educational programs geared to those specialties, so it’s important to have a clear idea of what position within the agency you wish to hold.

Once you actually become a police officer in the United States, your training and education don’t end. You can expect rigorous ongoing training and throughout your entire law enforcement career.

In your quest of learning how to become a police officer you will also need to understand the different agencies that currently work within the United States.

Some of these agencies include:
Sheriffs Department
United States Marshal Service
Federal Police
State Police
Regional/Municipal Police
Corrections Officers
US Customs and Border Protection
DEA (Drug enforcement agency)
ATF (Bureau of alcohol, firearms & tobacco)

The educational requirements will depend on the agency of choice though they will still require at least the above-listed minimum requirements.

Authorities act on 'credible' threats to NYC, D.C.

Federal authorities investigated "specific, credible but unconfirmed" threats Thursday night involving possible plots to attack New York City and Washington around the 9/11 anniversary, the Department of Homeland Security said.

The threat involving possible bombings was shared with New York and Washington police.
The threat information was about three people who may have been dispatched to the U.S. to meet with associates to carry out the attacks, said a federal law enforcement official who was not authorized to speak publicly and asked not be identified.

President Obama was briefed about the matter Thursday morning and received updates during the day.
Department of Homeland Security spokesman Matt Chandler said documents recovered from the raid in May on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan revealed al-Qaeda's interest to strike the U.S. on meaningful dates.

"In this instance, it's accurate that there is specific, credible but unconfirmed threat information," Chandler said. "As we always do before important dates like the anniversary of 9/11, we will undoubtedly get more reporting in the coming days."

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the threat, while credible, was "not corroborated." He urged New Yorkers to go about their business as usual.

I know the Police will do everything in their power to keep everyone safe.

York Regional Police Officer Killed

A York Regional Police officer killed early Tuesday morning was run over and dragged to his death when the driver of a stolen van he had just stopped suddenly accelerated in a bid to escape, homicide investigators believe.

Constable Garrett Styles, 32, had parked his cruiser directly behind the suspect vehicle, walked up to it and discovered two teenagers inside – a male and a female, a police source said.

The officer ran the licence plate, discovered the owner was neither of the two juveniles and reached inside for the keys.
At that point, the van suddenly lurched forward, pinning Constable Styles underneath and dragging him with it.

Constable Styles was able to radio for help and was rushed to nearby Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket.

“It’s with deep regret that I advise you that a very competent and capable police officer of York Regional Police has succumbed to his injuries this morning as a result of a traffic stop,” York Regional Police Chief Eric Jolliffe told reporters outside the hospital.

The two suspects were arrested at the scene, in East Gwillimbury, north of Toronto. The male driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Constable Styles, a seven-year veteran of the police force, is survived by his wife, Melissa, and two young children.

Chief Jolliffe, who appeared shaken, said the officer’s family had asked for “space to deal with their loss.”

Television images of the scene show a van stopped in a grassy area off the highway, with long track marks behind it. The vehicle has damage to its front end.

Homicide detectives, along with collision-reconstruction and canine teams, are investigating.
Special Investigations Unit spokesman Frank Phillips said his agency would not be taking a role in scrutinizing events.

Normally deaths and serious injuries incurred during police-civilian encounters are examined by Ontario’s civilian-staffed SIU. But because Constable Styles died of his injuries, the matter rests with the York Regional homicide squad, Mr. Phillips said.

The incident occurred at Highway 48 and Herald Road in East Gwillimbury at 4:50 a.m. Constable Styles died shortly after 6 a.m.

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak extended condolences to Constable Styles’s family.

Constable Styles joined York Regional Police as a cadet-in-training in December of 2003 and became a constable in May, 2004. He worked in uniform patrol in the force’s No. 1 District, which covers Newmarket, Aurora and East Gwillimbury.

He is the 10th York Region police officer to die in the line of duty.

The most recent casualty before him – also felled by a car – was Detective-Constable Robert Plunkett, who was slain in August, 2007.

Constable Plunkett’s killer has been convicted of manslaughter and is to be sentenced in Newmarket on Wednesday. The prosecution is seeking a penitentiary sentence of at least 10 years.

2 Philly copx shoot, kill suspected drug dealer

A suspected drug dealer who allegedly pulled a gun on police was fatally shot by two officers Monday night in the city's Kensington section.

At 8:05, the uniformed officers responded to a report of drug sales and a person with a gun in the 2100 block of East Monmouth Street, said police spokesman Lt. Raymond Evers.

The suspect, described as about 20 years old, pulled a large-caliber revolver from his waistband and pointed it at the officers, Evers said.

The officers fired eight times at the man, who fled a short distance before collapsing inside a house in the 2000 block of East Birch Street, Evers said.

A medic unit pronounced the man dead at the scene at 8:29. No one else was hurt.
Officers recovered the revolver, which the suspect dropped as he ran away, Evers said.
The shooting was being investigated by Internal Affairs, which examines all police gun discharges. The two officers who fired will be assigned to desk duty until the investigation is complete.

Texas deputy shot, killed by inmate

This is a sad story and it will be interesting to see where the gun came from.

Officials say an inmate shot and killed a sheriff's deputy while she was transferring prisoners outside a northeast Texas courthouse.

Bowie County officials say the deputy was shot about 2:30 p.m. Monday at the county courthouse in New Boston while moving inmates. They say their suspect is an inmate who then stole the sheriff's van and drove off. Authorities say the van was later found and the inmate captured in Ashdown, Ark.
There was no immediate word on the identities of the deputy and the suspect or how the suspect got a gun.

Bowie County is on the Texas-Arkansas border and includes Texarkana, Texas.

The other day was was in court for a file where only 1 suspect was identified, it was funny were were joking before hand saying " Wouldn't it be funny if the other ones showed up"

Well when the trial began guess who came for moral support? Yep the other unidentified suspect that we had a photo of, let's just say their day didn't go as planned...

Police Gear: Handcuffs

Well there's not much to say about handcuffs that most don't already know, but I felt a post was needed as they are a very important part of the job and a piece of gear all officers use.

Handcuffs are restraint devices designed to secure an individuals wrists close together. They comprise two parts, linked together by a chain, a hinge or in the case of rigid cuffs, a bar. Each half has a rotating arm which engages with a ratchett that prevents it from being opened once closed around a person's wrist. Without the key, the handcuffs cannot be removed and so the handcuffed person is unable to move his or her wrists more than a few centimetres/inches apart, making many tasks difficult or impossible. This is usually done to prevent suspected criminal from escaping police custody.

Hand positioning

In the past, police officers typically handcuffed an arrested person with his or her hands in front, but since approximately the mid-1960s behind-the-back handcuffing has been the standard. The vast majority of police academies in the United States today also teach their recruits to apply handcuffs so that the palms of the suspect's hands face outward after the handcuffs are applied.

The Jacksonville, Florida Police Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and others are notable exceptions, as they favor palms-together handcuffing. This helps prevent radial neuropathy or handcuff neuropathy during extended periods of restraint. Suspects are handcuffed with the keyholes facing up (away from the hands) to make it difficult to open them even with a key or improvised lock-pick.

Police Officer lower back pain

The last few months have been going great when it comes to fitness, I've been hitting the new gym and feeling great. Little did I know that because of bad habits at work I was a ticking time bomb for having lower back pain.

I was at the gym on Sunday and using the Seat Row machine and I twisted the wrong way and tweaked my back and then I was a cripple.

What surprised me was when I went into Massage and the Chiropractor they said "Oh your a police officer, enough said" They said you wouldn't believe how many officers come into the clinic with lower back pain.

The majors things that cause it is:
- the heavy duty belt around your waist.
- Sitting in the patrol car for long hours.
- and the worst, if you have a laptop in the car, twisting to the right in order to type reports.

Well after some treatment it's getting better and I have another appointment tonight, Know that I know I'm at risk because of the job I have to take steps to avoid it.. Here's some information I found.

POLICE LOWER BACK PAIN

Police officers spend long hours patrolling neighborhoods or streets. Patrolling can be on foot, horseback, motorcycle or car. An officer's duty belt can weigh more than 15 pounds with equipment wrapping around the waist while the officer patrols or runs, but all the gear can weigh up to 25lb. Not only does the weight and location of the duty belt add stress to an officer's back and neck, but the amount of time officers must sit in patrol vehicles increases spinal fatigue. Duty requirements impact the incident rate of back issues in police officers,

Duty requirements do not exclusively lead to chronic back pain in police officers. The posture officers use while carrying equipment and patrolling have an impact on resulting pain. Slouching in patrol cars for extended periods of time plays a role in the development. In addition, overweight officers might have a higher propensity for back pain after a complete shift is performed

Treatment
A small percentage of those who suffer from chronic back pain require surgery, according to the Mayo Clinic. Those who don't require surgery need to work the core muscles in the abdomen, legs and back to provide the proper support for the spine. Exercises range from flexing your ankles while lying on the ground to performing squats against a wall. Stretching should be done to release stress in the spine and mobilize the joints. Officers also should do non-jarring aerobic activities such as swimming and cycling to maintain cardiovascular fitness without adding to back pain.

Solutions
There are ways for officers to help reduce back pain. The first is to get out of patrol cars and walk around at least once an hour if appropriate. Reducing repetitive overtime also can help alleviate chronic back pain. Another solution being studied is the use of a suspender system to help support the officer's duty belt. There are suspender systems on the market that are virtually invisible under a uniform but help support the weight sitting around an officer's waist.

With April Fools coming up tomorrow I thought I would post a few classic pranks that you may want to try.

Q) Do you know who played the first April fools prank?
A) The first April fools prank was from a novel hundreds of years old where a fox played a prank on a chicken emperor.

Since that time April fools has morphed into a day where the office jokster or class clown's practical jokes or general foolishness is accepted.

Sorry the day is not a holiday...The day is marked by the commission of good humoured or funny jokes, hoaxes, and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, teachers, neighbors, work associates, etc.

Here are a few classics:

Two Black Eyes

Put a dark substance around the eyepiece of a pair of binoculars (we recommend dark eye-shadow instead of the black shoe polish used in the classic prank of yesteryear). Hand them to your victim and point out something for them to look at in the distance. Then laugh at the dark circles around their eyes.

Do the Splits

Find a scrap of cloth. Place a dollar on the floor and stay nearby. When the victim comes by and bends down to pick up the dollar, rip the cloth loudly. Most people will reach back to see if they ripped their pants.

Door Ambush

This is the most classic and simple prank ever. Balance a small disposable cup of water on the top of a partially open door. Then wait for the splash!

Toilet Trouble

Put a piece of bubblewrap under the toilet seat so when your victim sits, they are surprised by a loud POP!

Becoming a Police Officer: The Job

Police work is far from a 9 A.M to 5 P.M, Monday to Friday occupation. A Police Officer could be assigned to work any day of the week at any time. The average work week is 40-44 hours a week. Many agencies go with shift work, working 12 hour shifts. Example: I work 4 days on 4 days off, 12 hour shifts, 2 days then 2 nights. Working shift work may have some disadvantages but it's far from a humdrum existence.

What's the money like you may ask, well many large departments start officers off at $40,000 and you can work your way up close to $80,000, some even higher. As depending on what route your career takes you could make over $100,000 with promotions.

There are many other benefits of the job, usually early retirement with a full pension, sick leave, lots of vacation, paid uniforms, cool gear, excitement and job security.

But one thing I would say before you close down your laptop and sign up, think about the stress this job will place on your family or the family you plan to have. You end up missing alot of "family functions," your on a totally different schedule from your "normal" friends and it's a dangerous job. That's why you see alot of cops marry fellow cops. That's a decision you must make, to me it's worth it.

Police Men's Flag Football

A couple of weeks ago I signed up for a Flag Football team that some people were trying to put together of Police Officers to enter the Local Flag Football league, then a touch team in the summer.

I was excited when I first read the email, but as I started to think about it I become less joyous. The reason being is it seems every time someone trys to organize things within this department they seem to fall apart.

So tomorrow are our first two games, I'm working a day shift but my Sgt is giving me the time off for some missed lunches.

Here's the problem tho, Our first games are tomorrow, we haven't had a practice yet, we haven't had a meeting yet, we don't have uniforms and we don't have plays..... On the bright side we have a name, The Blue Knights..... Wish me luck!!

Wild Wild West

I'm sitting here on my first day off and I'm thinking back to yesterday and how exciting it was.

My night shift last night was on of those shifts that make you say " I love my job"

I don't know any other thing that offers so much excitement as Policing. Last night was one of those nights were there were no calls and the night seemed to just drag along, I should have learned over my time on the job that these are the nights were crazy things happen.

We were running from one call to another, The one call turned into 3 separate calls where there were k9 tracks,guns, foot chases and weapons. It was non-stop fun, doesn't matter I was 5 hours late getting off.

Police have three people in custody after a stabbing in early Tuesday "my Zone" morning.

Police were called shortly before 4:30 a.m. to 22 Street. A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Const. Spokeman said the victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. A 36-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested a couple of hours later and are still being questioned. Spokeman said charges are expected.

Palmeter said that while the call for help came from 22 street, police think the stabbing actually happened on nearby Street. He said it appears to have stemmed from an argument between the victim and suspects, who all know each other.

Police recovered a bloody white towel from the backyard of the property.

Police also found a can of bear spray nearby and are trying to determine if that is related to the stabbing.

While investigating the stabbing, police patrolling the 300 block of a St at about 6 a.m. spotted two men walking whom they thought may have been involved. But when they got out of their cruiser the two men fled.

Police dogs tracked the men to a residence. One man who was already in the home was arrested for breach of conditions, and one of the two men who fled was arrested after he came outside and was found to be carrying a handgun. The second person who ran was arrested initially and then released at the scene, but then rearrested for obstructing a police officer as the police dogs searched the area. Police discovered two more guns in nearby woods.

Spokeman said the men walking were not connected to the stabbing incident.

Here now gone..... Komodo Sports

I've been waiting the last week for my new Vibram Five Fingers Komodo Sports. I was surprised to find that MEC sold Vibram Five Fingers online. I was looking to buy the new Komodo Sports but all the sites in the states ( The non-fake vibrams, how to spot a fake here) would not ship to Canada.

I stumbled upon MEC that would ship across Canada and they had great prices. I ordered the new Vibram Five Fingers Komodo Sports and had them shipped to my house. The worst thing they could have done was given me a tracking number. All throughout the day I would check where my package was, I think i became a mail stalker.... When the package hasn't changed for a while i would wonder why, and once they package was in the city I was excited.

I knew what time the mail lady usually showed up, so I started looking out the window, awaiting her arrival. There she was, she was delivering mail at the apartment building across the street, I didn't want to look crazy so I didn't wait for her at the front door, but I had my shoes on...

Once I got the package I opened it up and the shoes looked awesome, I was excited to slide them on. When sliding them on that's when I realized there was something wrong. They went on way to easy, Five Fingers will stretch alittle and should fit snug, they were alittle loose when I first slide them on so they were too big because they would only stretch.

I already have a pair of VFF's that are size 42 that fit well, so they must differ alittle more between styles.

So I took them back to the local MEC and returned them, even tho MEC does carry a few styles here they don't carry the Komodo Sports here,,, So the waiting game begins again.

Canadian Crime stats 2009

This Post is for all you stat junkies out there, I plan to have more posts with Crime stats in the future.

Police-reported crime in Canada continues to decline. Both the volume and severity of police-reported crime fell in 2009, continuing the downward trend seen over the past decade.

Are we not catching them? Are they not being reported? or are the Police getting better?

Nearly 2.2 million crimes were reported to police in 2009, about 43,000 fewer than in 2008. Overall, three property crimes accounted for the majority of this drop: 17,000 fewer motor vehicle thefts, 10,000 fewer mischief offences and 5,000 fewer break-ins.

The crime rate, a measure of the volume of crime reported to police, fell 3% in 2009 and was 17% lower than a decade ago.

The Crime Severity Index (CSI), a measure of the seriousness of police-reported crime, declined 4% in 2009 and stood 22% lower than in 1999.

Violent crimes, which range in seriousness from harassing phone calls to homicide, accounted for about 1 in 5 crimes in 2009. Police-reported violent crime in Canada is also declining, but to a lesser extent than overall crime.

Police identified about 165,000 youth aged 12 to 17 accused of a criminal offence in 2009. Both the number of crimes and the seriousness of crimes committed by youth have generally been declining since 2001, including a slight drop in 2009.
Police reported about 443,000 violent crimes in 2009, about 4 in 10 of which were minor assaults. Rates for many violent crimes fell in 2009, including serious assault, sexual assault and robbery.

However, some violent crimes did increase. There were 806 attempted murders in 2009, 85 more than in 2008. Increases were also reported in the rate of extortion, firearms offences and criminal harassment.

There were 610 homicides in 2009, about the same as the previous year. The homicide rate has been relatively stable for the past decade and well below the peak during the mid-1970s.

Break-ins have been steadily declining since peaking in the early 1990s, including a 4% drop in 2009. Police reported just over 205,000 break-ins in 2009, of which 6 in 10 were residential.

Following 25 years of general decline, impaired driving offences increased for the third consecutive year, up 3% in 2009.

In July 2008, new legislation came into effect enabling police to conduct mandatory roadside testing and assessment of suspected drug-impaired drivers. Of the 89,000 incidents of impaired driving in 2009, just over 1,400 were reported by police to have been drug-impaired driving.

Well I'm on days off now, it was a busy weekend so I'm looking forward to relaxing.

Saturday night wasn't too busy and I was excited to get off an hour early due to the time change.....

The supervisors are always talking about being proactive and not letting the calls just come to you. Well early in the morning I conducted a traffic stop which ended with me going home super late... but it was worth it, I think at the end of it 35 charges were laid.

Five face weapons charges

Four teenage boys and a man face weapons charges after police stopped a vehicle in "Town" early Sunday.

Police say they stopped a vehicle containing four 17-year-olds and a man, 20, at about 4 a.m. near Twin Oaks and "another" road. All five have been charged with possessing a weapon dangerous to the public peace.

Three boys face charges of breaching a court order and one boy has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The Canada Games Center opened this week.

The Canada Games were a great hit and well enjoyed by all, one of the games center pieces was the Canada Games Center that has pools, a field house with 4 basketball courts, a running track and a fitness center.

The Opening day was this past Saturday, it was busy in the pool area but I headed to the fitness center and it wasn't too bad up there.

Yesterday I went to the fitness center and did some weights, went for a running on the running track, biked for 15mins as welll as 15mins on the rower then jumped in the pool for a few laps.

It was a full day, I'm a little sore today but I'm off to the fitness center again....later

I thought I was having a bad day, I went to bed early last night but this morning I found it so hard to get out of bed and I just have no energy so far today, but it's not as bad as Christina Aguilera.

I can't wait till Saturday when the new gym opens up, I'm working that night but I'll be able to grab a quick workout before I head to work.

If you think your having a bad month or so think of Christina Aguilera, she messed up the national anthem in front of millions, sounded bad at the grammy's in front of her peers and thrown in jail by the cops....

Christina Aguilera was arrested early this morning along with her boyfriend in West Hollywood, Christina was popped for public intoxication and her boyfriend was arrested for driving under the influence.

Aguilera was arrested at 2:45 AM and booked at the West Hollywood Sheriff's substation on a misdemeanor charge.
We're told cops initially pulled over Rutler after they noticed he was driving erratically.

One thing that I believe is very important when looking at becoming a Police Officer is if you have a city or area in mind that you would like to work, learn what they look for in future employees.

Most Police departments in North America have websites, and they usually dedicate a page or two to recruitment.

Here are two great examples of recruitment pages, in the US ( NYPD ) and in Canada ( RCMP)

The Key is to look at what these departments are looking for and what you can do to give you the best chance.

Some Departments looking heavily on volunteer work, or taking part in your community, some will want a university degree others don't care at all.

The Key: Police Departments will do their homework on you, So do yours on them!!

Ride A-long

Every time that you strap on your belt and turn your radio on, you never know where the calls will take you, or what you'll experience out there.

First night shift I was taking out my Sister in-Law on a ride-along, I was excited to show her what I do. She had helped me when I was first looking to get into policing. The cycle had been busy up to that point so I was hoping it was going to keep on producing good calls.

Well I don't know if the criminals heard that L was going to be out on the streets and stayed in or it was just one of those nights. I tried hard to dig us up some trouble but it just wasn't working.

We went on a few calls, and she got to hear some of the crazy requests citizens ask the Police " My boyfriend took my weed and smokes can you get it back" Oh Ok we will get right on that!

We got to ride lights and sirens once going to a weapons call, and with that call she would have seen the few minutes of excitement followed by the reports.

No matter how busy it was I had a great time with L and she's welcome back anytime in my car.

Roll up the rim is back at Tims, I'm not a coffee drinker but maybe I'll need to get a hot chocolate.

Well I was back to work today, there was no easing me into the routine.

Once I logged in I was going to calls and typing reports all day, I rather that then being bored.

On days off I headed to CB for time with the family. I had a great time with family, some that I haven't seen in a while.

It was fun, I stayed busy. I think it's a country thing, I spent alot of time clearing roofs off from the heavy snow.

Today the same family members came to the big city for alittle visit here, it's great to have family around.

POLICE NEWS: Poughkeepsie Mayor: 1 Officer Shot, 3 Hurt; Gunman Dead

It's always sad when you hear stories like this, and makes you thankful everytime you come home safe..

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Authorities say a police officer was shot and the gunman killed in a shootout near a train station in New York's Hudson Valley. Three other officers were hurt, but police haven't said what their injuries are.

Poughkeepsie Mayor John Tkazyik tells the Poughkeepsie Journal the officers were taken to a hospital.

Greg Zurawik , a spokesman for St. Francis Hospital, says the gunman died at the hospital Friday afternoon. He says the man suffered a gunshot wound but he had no other details.

Tkazyik says the officers were called to the scene by a report of shots fired in a parking lot around 1 p.m. No other details were immediately available.

Poughkeepsie is a city of about 30,000 people about 70 miles south of Albany.

Canada Games Gold Medal Game

The Gold Medal Game was a blast, I was cheering for B.C and they ended up winning...
The game went back and forth and B.C ended up winning over Quebec 7-4.

The energy was high in the building and it must be a great experience for those young kids to play in front of 10,000 people. The place was packed but alot of people left before the medals were handed out ( as seen in photo)

Tonight is the Gold Medal game for men's hockey for the Canada Games. Myself, my brother and my brother in-laws were given tickets to the game. The game tonight is between B.C and Quebec.

Out of the two teams Quebec seems to be the stronger team, to me all I care about is that it's a good game.

Earlier there were a string of robberies, but sadly I didn't get on those calls.

I'm so looking forward to signing off in a hr and jumping into a warm bed and sleeping till I need to head back to work.

I Think Leaders are built through peoples life experiences, so there's hope for everyone.

Though management skills are helpful in some aspects of the profession, But policing needed more leadership from supervisors and others throughout the organization. In particular, effective leaders avoid micromanaging the actions of subordinates and coworkers. They set a proper tone, show how the job is to be done, and give others the freedom to find ways to complete assigned duties within those parameters.

Goo Goo Dolls Live

Well I was super excited about going to see the Goo Goo Dolls last night, I had seen them live about 4 years ago and jumped at the chance to see them again.

Crash Parallel was listed as their opening act, when receiving the tickets and saw that I YouTube'd them and listened to one of their songs, I thought they sounded nice.

Well from the first song they sang I was sold on Crash Parallel, they had great songs and they put on a great show. As Crash Parallel finished their last song I thought to myself they just showed up the Goo Goo Dolls!!

Well the Goo Goo Dolls came out and showed they still had it, they put on a great show, playing their older hits and some of their new songs, I love the energy they put into their shows and their music like always is amazing.

It was a fun night of music

Basketball in the hood

The Community Officers in the area i work in every year organize a Basketball game that puts officers vs. teachers.

There is a area of public housing that sits up on a hill over looking the city, it gets a really bad name but there are alot of good people up there. At the top of the hill in the school that is P - 6, I believe.

The Teachers always have a strong team, seems like the recruit the best teachers from the surrounding schools. The Teachers came out strong taking a 8-0 lead, but once we warmed up the come back was on. The game was very playful till the end when both sides clearly wanted to win, the refs blew the whistle stating the game was over and looking at the score board it was tied up, I think that was planned. The kids had a great game as well as all the players.

After the game the teachers treated us to subway up in the staff room, was a fun day.

I got alot of looks because I wore my Vibram Five Fingers to play in, everyone was like won't you roll your ankle in those? My answer was our feet were designed to start and stop, these just let our technology work..lol

Can't wait for tonight, we are off to the GOO GOO DOLLS, should be a awesome show, we are 3 rows back.

I'm not a big car guy, my friend at Goodcarbadcar.net should be writing this post.

Sometime within 2011 Ford will be replacing the Crown Victoria Interceptor. I have loved driving the Crown Vic it handles awesome for a big car. I guess the Crown vic is getting old and Ford is looking to move on, maybe like they moved away from the Ford Ranger.

There's alot of options out there for Police departments to choose from. A lot of officers want their next police vehicle to be the Dodge Charger. I will say the Charger looks cool, and with the push bars on the front they look aggressive. The local Military Police have switched to them, I think they are too small personally.

Yesterday we had a "block training" session about ethics. The topic of ethics is a sticky one with officers, more so with the small things rather then the big issues.

Maybe small things in your mind, but where do you draw the line?
- Is it ethical to take that free coffee?
- Is it ethical to check up on your sisters boyfriend on the police system ?
- Is it ethical to give someone a ticket solely based on the drivers attitude ?
- Is it ethical to pull over that car to get a better look at it's hot driver ?

Those are the small ones that you may be able to sweep under the rug, the grey area maybe...

The story that the S/Sgt purposed to us was: You are a officer that rolls by a fellow officer on a traffic stop, as you pull up on scene, you see the officer has arrested the driver. S/he has the prisoner in handcuffs and s/he roughs up the prisoner (assaults him). What would you do?

If you are not a police officer think of this in the terms as the other officer being a family member, that will give you the feel of the "blue line"

The S/Sgt wanted to know if you would have strong enough ethics to do what is right? Even if you don't, will you do what you need to do to save your job?

What if down the road you find yourself in a Police Act complaint? what reason will you give the board for doing nothing? or even worse covering it up? Deceit will kill your career...

There is one big difference in policing in the past 10yrs ago. What is it? Now we are always being watched and that means being filmed on camera phones and being placed on YouTube for the world to judge you.

There's a video below, of an incident being caught on film. I choose not to judge other officers but I think the YouTube title gives it away. Now think if the officers tried to cover this up before they knew the video existed....

Back to School

The last 2 days I have been off and street and in the classroom. Every year we are taken from patrol and sent to the training section for 3 days to be bored to death so that if we screw up the department can say we trained him on such and such date to do it the opposite way.

I must say that the whole thing is not completely boring, like today we spent a quarter of the day doing use of force scenarios. It's always fun to go hands on with people, shoot some sim rounds and use the simulators.

But the rest of the days are: Report writing, diversity, ethics, upgrades to the police system and mental health.

There was one session about sources that was very interesting because it's something that I have been focusing on the last year.

Well off to bed soon, another full day of training tomorrow....I find sitting in the classroom really takes it out of you.

The Day You Dread...

You never think this day would happen. Sometimes I thought about it just before falling asleep, because I was at home safe while he was out working the shifts that leave us all so vulnerable to these worrisome thoughts.
But those are just silly thoughts, a last moment to ponder before drifting off. I honestly never worried about Ryan’s job. I knew he was well trained, I knew he worked in teams, I knew he knew what he was doing out there. I admired him for being a Police Officer. I respected the job. I knew when we got married that I was marrying a cop. Marriage to a cop comes with many days, nights, weekends, holidays, and special occasions spent alone. I knew that, I got that.
I also worked shifts, so we both understood the importance of making the most of our time together. When you think about the "day" it happens, you get this visualization of sorrowful Police Officers knocking on your door to break your heart and deliver the tragic news. Unfortunately it was not that Hollywood moment, it was much worse than anything Hollywood could produce.

Ryan was on day shift January 12th. I heard him showering around 4 a.m., and as usual I fell right back asleep. I was up and out of the house by 7 a.m. I dropped off Nolan at daycare, and then began my usual drive into work. The roads were in terrible condition, so much snow and poor visibility. My SUV struggled to make it out of our neighbourhood onto Kingston Road. I listened to the radio for updates on road conditions and accidents. I heard the news that a Police Officer had been injured by a snowplow, but thought nothing other than it must have been a vehicular collision. Finally I made it onto the Gardiner and I called Ryan and left him a message that Nolan was dropped off and the roads were terrible and I was going to be late for work. Not 5 seconds later my phone rang, blocked caller ID, I naturally assumed it was Ryan calling me back.

The voice on the other end was not Ryan though. It was his friend and colleague, Tom Steeves. I just started blabbing, telling Tom, Ryan was on day shift and he had court today, and try him on his cell. I got the awkward pauses and sighs and then Tom asked me where I was? I said I was driving to work, why? Tom said where are you exactly? I knew from that moment...I don’t know how or why, but I just knew. I exited at Spadina in a panic and tried to figure out how to flag down a cop for help. Tom begged me to pull over and wait, saying they would come to me. I just kept driving focused on finding St. Mike’s hospital. I hung up on Tom and somehow I was able to continue driving, while barely seeing through my tears, and made the dreaded Hollywood calls.
First call was to my mom in Peterborough. I told her Ryan was hurt and she needed to come to Toronto right away. Second call was to Ryan’s parents in Florida. I told Ryan’s dad, Glenn, he needed to come home, get on a plane and come home now. I found out later, strangely enough, both my mom, and Ryan’s dad had been watching CP24 in two different countries, at the same time, and happened to see the same footage, and they both knew that Ryan was more than hurt.

I finally pulled over at Queen and Yonge and waited. I could see St. Mike’s hospital one block away. I wanted to run there as fast as I could but my legs would not move. Finally I saw a cruiser coming for me. The Sergeant who drove me one block to St. Mike’s could not look into my eyes. I asked him if Ryan was ok. He kept his eyes forward while the tears poured down his face. I knew it was fatal. I was swarmed by a sea of high-ranking Police members as they whisked me through the emergency unit and into a small room.

The lights in the room were dim, and I was forced to sit down. Finally the Hollywood moment... After Chief Blair informed me Ryan had been killed, all I could ask was what Ryan was doing out there? Ryan’s a Sergeant, why was he out there? How did this happen? Ryan spent many dangerous years at Guns and Gangs, if it was going to happen during his career it would have been then not now, not as a Sergeant. I remember crying but then the tears just stopped. I think my emotions went from shock, to grief, to disbelief, to anger, to resentment, to frustration and finally to self-pity. It was at the self-pity point (not even 20 minutes after being informed of my loss) that I was asked to consent to donate Ryan’s eyes. Ryan’s eyes. The most beautiful baby-blue eyes. His perfect 20/20 vision eyes. They told me it was the only part of him that could be salvaged. The most beautiful part was the only part. I immediately consented and I immediately began to feel better. Ryan’s body was taken to the Coroners, and I was taken home. I was never allowed to hold his hand or kiss his face. Evidence needed to be preserved.

Family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, all began to fill up my house, all there to comfort me. Somehow I was fine, somehow I was comforting them? From that point on I found strength. I was surrounded constantly by people who cared. I was assisted constantly by the Police Association. I was supported constantly by the Police Service and the public. All of Ryan’s courage and bravery jumped into my soul and helped me get through the next week. The visitation was overwhelming but I insisted on greeting every single person who wished to offer their sympathy, or gratitude, or last respects. I did it all for Ryan.
On the morning of Ryan’s funeral service, I was able to hold his hand one last time and kiss him goodbye. I told him I would make him proud and raise our son to be just like him. As we followed the hearse, I took every moment in. Citizens outside the funeral home lining the streets, opposing traffic stopping, on ramps blocked off, motorists saluting, the vacated highways, the peaceful journey into Toronto along the Highway of Heroes. We staged in front of 52 Division. The bagpipes began, and slowly the crowds marched. I saw the faces, the tears, the hands over the hearts, the saluting I heard the K9’s crying, I heard the sounds of silence in the busiest city in Canada. It was all for Ryan. It was all from you. Thank you for allowing me to tell you about the day you think will never happen. Thank you for being brave and for being supportive. Thank you for serving and protecting. Thank you You are all heroes in life, and remember, there will be an answer, let it be. With the utmost respect,

Last night we went sledding with my brother and friends, that would be obvious if you could feel the pain in my back.

The Hill we went to is the biggest and baddest hill in the city, it's steeper then some of the ski runs you may go down.

On the way there we stopped at Giant Tiger and picked up some crazy carpets for $2.97 which I thought was a steal and headed for the hill.

I brought along my video sunglasses to capture the fun. The first few runs were a test to see if the glasses would survive, the jury was out on that.

So i put on the glasses and headed down the hill....The glasses didn't pick up much visually due to the low light, or lack of it, but it captured the audio, I'm not sure if I sound like 'm being attacked by the tickle monster or I'm a school girl that just met Justin beiber,

Enjoy, it was awesome.. Oh the soreness was from a massive jump that I only hit with half speed after seeing my brother get launched through the air...lol

I just finished writing about my dinner out last night, but my dinner was nothing like this story...

Dinner out

Last night we went out to eat, we had a coupon for a local high end restaurant that we purchased on team buy.

We paid $25 for a $50 gift certificate. Even with the gift certificate we had to pay some money out of pocket.

I wanted to try something A little different, so on the waiters suggestion I order the veal.

When I took that first bite into the veal, I expected it to taste like steak but it didn't. I guess veal would be closer to pork in taste.

The meal was good, don't think I would get it again tho.

Hamstring rehab

Last night during the snowstorm I was doing sprints in the basement with H, during sprint #4 i felt a slight pull on my left hamstring, I walked it off and stretched alittle more and attempted to perform another sprint, Big Mistake... I pulled it!!

So with my sprinting for the evening done I returned to the Man Room and researched Hamstring rehab, here are a few things I learned. So pissed my right hamstring was just feeling great now it's my left, I guess it's my fault for not fixing the issue of weak glutes an hip flexors...

Immediate management

All sport medicine textbooks have a chapter on the immediate management of muscle injuries. The most important procedure in the management of soft-tissue injuries in sports people is initial icing while moving the muscle, known as ‘cryokinetics’.

This is done by sitting with an ice bag under the hamstring and keeping the hamstring moving by bending and straightening the knee to the point of mild discomfort.
This satisfies the immediate goal of reducing swelling and subsequent haematoma, and the addition of movement results in less ‘ice scarring’. Ice scarring is a phenomenon whereby the superficial fascia adheres to the underlying muscle and affects the overall gliding of the muscle in relation to its covering fascia.

The end result is a muscle that moves with its adherent fascia whilst contracting. The quickest way to cause ice scarring is to over-apply ice to the injured area and to keep the muscle completely still while being iced. One must be certain before applying ice to a hamstring injury that a local muscle injury does exist. Icing a ‘neural hamstring’ with no local muscle pathology will result in more reflex muscle tone and more ice scarring.

Rehab running

The following rehab running protocol applies to both muscle tears and neural hamstrings. The muscle pathologies will take longer to progress through the stages.

As soon as an injured athlete is able to walk pain-free, then running may commence. However, this running protocol must be controlled and follow a very set programme.

Athletes will understand, when it is explained to them, that running by themselves with very specific criteria takes away risk factors that are potentially damaging to the muscle. For example, turning to chase an opposition player/team mate or reaching down low to catch a ball. They are less likely to re-injure in a controlled environment. Following this principle, an athlete may start sport- specific hamstring rehabilitation with the following rehab running protocol.

How to survive a snowstorm

Today we are in the middle of our first big snowstorm. Last night was my last night shift and we had about 5-10cms and there were accidents everywhere. The snow let off till lunch today and it started again and it's going in full force now. By the end of the storm they are saying we'll get 40 cms of snow!! Glad I'm off

To go along with the Storm theme I added he top 3 Things to do to prepare for a storm.

1 - Check your emergency supplies.

When you are advised of a winter snow storm approaching your town, check your emergency supplies. Ideally, you should have batteries, flashlights, lanterns, a first aid kit, rock salt, sand and plenty of water. Also, for those that have emergency generators, make sure that you have enough fuel to power your unit for a few days. Keep emergency numbers handy, as well as phone numbers for family members, neighbors and friends.

2 - Prepare for power outages.

During major snow storms many families loose power due to electrical lines that are experiencing trouble. It could hours or even days before electricians are able to restore power to some homes. Having extra ice can keep your food cold.

3 - Stay warm

Store extra blankets, firewood and kerosene for portable heaters. Bundle up if you go outdoors. An extra layer of clothing such as thermal wear can help keep your body warm. Additionally, a scarf, hat, gloves, boots and thick socks will help keep you warm.

Am I that scary

I never thought of myself as a scary guy, but I thought twice about it the other day.

On my day shifts I was at a public building in our great city, I was sitting down waiting to speak with someone about a call. While I was waiting a attractive lady walked towards me that was well dressed wearing hig heel boots, when she walked by me she mumbled something under her breath, I couldn't make out what she said, but I could tell it wasn't friendly.

Well about 15mins later I found myself walking out the building walking back to my car, again I saw the female that mumbled at me, she was standing with a male having a smoke, as I got close she saw me, and yelled " Stay away from me!!" "Don't Touch me" and took off running. She was running in her high heels and I was impressed no way I'd be able to run in those.

I spoke with the male for alittle to learn what her issue was, then had alittle chuckle.

I hope I don't have that effect of everyone ;)

I have been recently addicted to watching the show Dragons' Den. The Show Dragons' Den is on CBC and it's in the 5th season. The idea of the show is that someone comes before a panel of millionaires and pitches their business idea to the Dragons, the idea is to get the Dragons to invest their own money in your business or invention.

Kenny's Meat Lasagna FAIL

Well today I was given the mission if I chose to accept it to make a Meat Lasagna.

I was given an easy recipe, and last night I went shopping and pick up everything I would need for it plus a few extra things.... I can never go to the grocery store without picking up some yummy extras.

I love Lasagna but I'm not a huge fan of lots of cottage cheese. To make this recipe alittle better I removed alot of the cottage cheese and tweaked a few other things.

I added TNT pepperoni, 3 types of cheese and some hot sauce with a blend of spices.

The photo beside is before it entered the oven, I'll add a photo of the finished product later once it's cooked. Mmmm I can't wait for the finished product, wish me luck.

Well I didn't get to far....As you can see I added " Fail" to the title..... I just found out the noodles needed to be cooked.....Opps....... How will I fix it? HELP

Update: I took the lasagna apart, piece by piece, and boiled the noodles... Let's see how it turns out

Days Off

Well this last cycle was pretty slow at work, it may of had something to do with the cold snap we have been having here. On night shifts when you would jump out of the nice warm paddy wagon the cold would hit you with in seconds going deep down to your bones, and even when you were back in the warm car it would take a while to warm up again. I think with the wind chill it was around -30 Brrrrrrr

Well Yesterday was a pretty lazy day, ended up going to Swiss Chalet because we had a coupon for buy 1 get 1 free.... You gotta love Swiss Chalet.

Today I'll be throwing on my uniform and heading to court ( can't forget my tie or I'll get in more trouble then the criminals) Today we have a assault with a weapon trial, should be interesting, really rests on the shoulders of our witnesses.

I was hoping to get down to the Canada Games oval for alittle skating maybe tonight, will be busy if the snow holds off.

Also these days off I need to throw in a swim as well

Well it's a big week in the NFL, today is Championship Sunday!

Today the Bears play the Packers who are on fire, and the high flying J.E.T.S play the Steelers.

This is a day where you usually wouldn't be able to move me from the couch, but today day is different because I'm working tonight.

That's one thing that a police officer and his family quickly realizes, that with Police work you'll find yourself working when the rest of your family in celebrating, your working, or when all the boys are watching the big game your working.

I guess this issue could be solved if I had a DVR, but I cancelled that service this year..... Guess I'll have to follow on my Iphone.

Oh and for the record, I love my Job!!! ( just wish the paddy wagon had satellite TV)

A man found dead in a Dartmouth apartment Friday "terrified" a woman who was his former neighbour.

Sheila MacKay said she was scared living across the hall from Patrick Lee McGrath, one of two people found dead in what police are calling a murder-suicide at 7 Galaxy Ave.

The bodies of McGrath, 58, and Marguerite Maude Kenney, 60, were discovered by police Friday evening in McGrath’s apartment.

MacKay said Kenney moved into the apartment she vacated a month ago. She said she left the building because she was afraid of McGrath.

"I moved out for my own safety," she said.

MacKay said the six-unit building, with two apartments on each of three floors, is owned by the Dartmouth Non-Profit Housing Society. She said she constantly complained to society director Doreen Tinkham about McGrath, especially after he had keys made to the building’s entrance and gave them to friends.

MacKay said each floor of the building she used to live in has "a secluded hallway" shared by the two apartments on that floor.

"I shared that hallway with every drug dealer and junkie in Dartmouth," said MacKay, who lived there for five and a half years until moving out, a year or so after McGrath’s arrival.

"At night, I was just terrified and I called the landlord continuously and the police, but they couldn’t do anything," MacKay said. "I figure the other tenants just pulled the blankets over their heads when they heard things. If somebody had listened to me, that dear soul would be alive."

According to its website, the Dartmouth Non-Profit Housing Society "assists individuals or families in acquiring more affordable housing."

No one was available at the society’s office on Saturday.

MacKay moved out Dec. 22, as soon as she could find somewhere else affordable to go.

Only a few days ago, Kenney brought mail to MacKay at her new place. "I had warned her about him," she said.

Police were called to the apartment building at 5 p.m. Friday by someone asking them to check on Kenney.

It’s believed a relative of the woman was in the hallway outside Kenney’s third-floor apartment trying to reach her by cellphone and could hear Kenney’s phone ringing inside the apartment, although police wouldn’t confirm that.

The police investigation led them to McGrath’s apartment, where the bodies were found.

Police aren’t releasing the causes of death, spokeswoman Theresa Rath said Saturday night. She said investigators believe the deaths occurred late Thursday night or early Friday morning. She wouldn’t comment on what led them to check McGrath’s apartment.

She said McGrath and Kenney were both known to police, but Kenney "to a lesser degree."

Investigators were expected to remain on the scene until Sunday, Rath said. Police talked to neighbours in the area as part of their investigation.

Well the new Canada Games center started taking applications for memberships yesterday, I didn't want to look too excited so I waited till today to go sign up.

I'm a Spy now...

Well for Christmas my family chipped in and gave me a pair of sunglasses that shoot HD video and sound. They weren't in at Christmas time and this store was the only dealer in town.

So this week they arrived, I was pumped to try them out. My brother picked them up and brought them over to my place, it was pretty funny opening the box and reading the instructions that were poorly translated from Japanese to English.

Some funny Lines:
- The smallest camera for hidden.
- Recommended highly for polices,journalist,travelers.
- Bring funs to life

So we plugged in the sunglasses and no lights came on, one thing that happened was the sunglasses became hot to the touch and we could smell something burning.... This isn't right !

So we took them back and exchanged them, before leaving the store we tried them out and they worked...

Here's the end result, I can't wait to use them, they are going to be lots of fun!

My Luxury Car

Little did you know Mr Policeman drove a luxury car....

I have a sexy navy blue Subaru outback, The car is about 10yrs old and I love it. The car is a station wagon that drives like a go-kart. You can't beat the AWD in the snowy weather.

The car has many luxury features for a older car, but one I recently noticed is far ahead of it's times and I've never seen it on any other car.

What's this special feature?? The car allows to scrape your icy windows as you sit in your car. How does this work? Well the windows on my car have been getting iced covered on the inside now, so once you scrap the outside you have to get into the car and scrap the windows from the inside.. Not fun

But I still love my car :)

Canada Games Center

The other day, myself, sister and brother in-law went to the opening of the Canada Games center here in the city.

For the ribbon cutting they had the mayor, premier and the Defense minister all giving speeches. It was nice they kept it short and sweet.

Once the ribbon was cut everyone was welcome inside for sweets and drinks then a tour of the building. ( I have had a couple tours late at night when working ;)

I'm excited to get a membership once the facility opens to the public, it will help with training!

The facility offers pools, a running track, basketball courts, yoga rooms and a fitness center :)

Today was a busy day at work, it was non-stop and I was about an 1 hour late getting home because of a Domestic.

I guess I can't complain, because my day would be alot worse if I was a police officer in Tunisia.

Police in Tunis opened fire and shot tear gas in the air as stone-throwing youths breached a curfew and surrounded government buildings.

At least three people were reportedly killed, bringing to more than 60 the number said by human rights groups to have died in a wave of unrest in what was previously seen as one of the Arab world's most stable and prosperous countries.

Snow Fort

Today is my first day backing this cycle, I was cursing around my favorite part of the city to work, which is known for it's shootings and gangs.

The thing about the job of a police officer, you get to see every inch of the city and you end up in many peoples' homes.

Today I was down a back street and came across one of the coolest snow forts I've seen in a while.

You could probably joke that in this area of town the extra protection is needed. :)

Winter Snow Storm

Well all week they have benn talking

about a big winter storm hitting the city, and here it is.

As I sit here typing the wind is howling and the snow is building up outside. Depending on who you talk to, or listen to on television the amount of predicted snow fall differs. The snow fall amount ranges from 15cms to 30cms.

It doesn't really matter to me how much snow we get because I'm in for the night. I'm back to work tomorrow, and even if the snows not cleared my Subaru will get me there.

I'm glad I'm not working tonight because our patrol cars are terrible in the snow, it's almost embarrassing driving around in the patrol cars slipping and sliding where ever you go.

I remember a few years ago going to a code 1 call, and passing officers that ditched their car to run to the location because there patrol car wouldn't make it up the hill..... Not cool

I used to laugh at women who said they had a shoe Fetish, the proper term is Shoe fetishism as defined by Wikipedia.

The reason I'm not laughing now is the fact that I have a shoe fetish now....

Ever since I started runnning in my Vibram Five Fingers I have fell in love with them, they have changed the way I thin about running, and aided improving my overal fitness.

Recently Vibram has introduced their new shoe Lineup for 2011. New to the Vibram Five Fingers lineup is the Komodo Sport, Bikilas LS (laces) and Jaya LR ( for Women).

I have been looking at the two new styles and I want them both, I would like to get at least one pair but it's going to be soo hard to pick

Toronto policeman killed by stolen snowplow

It's always tough to see a fellow officer hurt or even worse killed in the line of duty, Please pray for the family Sgt Ryan Russell.

The News Report follows:

An 11-year veteran of the Toronto police force is dead after being struck Wednesday by a stolen snowplow.
Toronto police chief Bill Blair said Sgt. Ryan Russell, 35 was one of two officers engaged in the pursuit of the stolen snowplow early Wednesday in the city's downtown.

The second officer suffered unspecified injuries.

Police were called just before 6 a.m. about a truck with a snowplow in the front that was stolen from a parking lot in the Parliament and Dundas Streets area.

Officers tracked down the stolen vehicle, reportedly using the GPS device installed inside, to the Davenport and Avenue Roads area — where one of the officers was struck by the snowplow.

Video images showed paramedics performing CPR on the officer as he was loaded into an ambulance. Toronto EMS Deputy Commander Dave Viljakainen said the officer was transported to St. Michael's Hospital downtown with no vital signs.

Meanwhile, police continued its pursuit of the snowplow through heavy snow for six city blocks until officers were forced to fire a number of shots, said Toronto police Staff Sgt. Chuck Konkel. The male suspect of the vehicle was struck by at least one of the bullets, according to Toronto police Staff Sgt. Jeff McGuire.

He was also taken to hospital for his injuries and remains in police custody.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is "generating her own breaths ... breathing on her own," Dr. G. Michael Lemole, section chief of neurosurgery at University Medical Center in Tucson, just told reporters.

And, he said, "I'm very encouraged by the fact that she's done so well. ... She has no right to look this good, and she does."

Parking Garage Speed work

This week we had our first real snow fall of the year, with the new snow on the ground it makes it a little hard to do speed work.

Well today I decided to take my speed work inside. My apartment building has a large parking garage that is about 100m long, so I put on my running gear and headed downstairs.

I haven't done speed work in a while so I kept it simple, I did 12 sprints with little rest in between, felt good ( well was painful, but felt good after ;)

Who is Jared Loughner ?

As the authorities sort out motives from emotions in the Arizona shooting rampage, one aspect of the multiple-tragedies event is clear: Jared Loughner, the alleged gunman, had an active Internet presence.

Like many people nowadays, Loughner, 22, has lived a public life. He reportedly had a MySpace page — which has been removed since the Jan. 8 shootings — and a YouTube Channel, under the user name Classitup10.

Anyone with a computer and an Internet connection can see remnants of Loughner's online existence and get a creepy glimpse into his psyche. You can read his abstruse personal philosophy in his text-laden videos. You don't have to wait for his manifesto to be released by the FBI or published by The New York Times. You can go to YouTube.

Loughner's YouTube profile page, created in October 2010, lists several schools and colleges. He names his favorite books, including Animal Farm, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Phantom Tollbooth and Mein Kampf.

One of his videos, titled "Hello," has been viewed by more than 1.5 million people. It begins: "Hello, my name is Jared Lee Loughner. This video is my introduction to you! My favorite activity is conscience dreaming; the greatest inspiration for my political business information. Some of you don't dream — sadly."

He writes: "I know who's listening: Government Officials, and the People. Nearly all the people … aren't aware of mind control and brainwash methods."

Another, called "Introduction: Jared Loughner," has been seen by more than 1.2 million YouTubers. Full of incoherent "facts" and illogical syllogisms, the video has an eerie Twin Peaksish soundtrack. "The argument to call me a terrorist is Ad hominem," Loughner writes. "What's government if words don't have meaning?"

Busy Night In The City

Lots of snow here today, perfect weather for playoff Football!!

Well Last night was a interesting night in the City....

It was a Saturday night in a always busy city so I expected some fun. It was funny by the end of the night we had our portables on our channel and the wagon radio was tuned into the other station were all the calls were taking place.

For a Saturday night we only had the a few calls, a couple noise complaints and a drunk male and that would be it. I really shouldn't be complaining but I was looking forward to a busy night. One of the other divisions was off the hook, they took two of our units, and 3 from another division.

But I guess there was one bonus, I was home in bed on time ;)

The Hardest Part.....

Last Night wasn't as busy as I expected being a Friday night shift, the weather was messy and I think it kept people inside and quiet.

We jumped in the wagon at the start of shift and signed in and within seconds we were dispatched on a call that seemed very Innocent at the start, we figured we'd be in and out in no time.

But..... Like many calls you attend they turn into something totally different then you expect or what was written on the call.

By the time we walked out to the wagon I felt sick, disgusted and alittle confused. On this job there is nothing worse then dealing with calls that involve children and how are sick society treats them. I guess it's the fact that children can't defend themselves and their so Innocent, and sometimes you feel helpless and just wish you pull on your superman cape and do something....

We did up that report and forwarded to the proper section for more investigation and off we were, but the call kinda lingers with you the rest of the night.

After midnight we ended up downtown, because the downtown units were backed up, so the wagon to the rescue...... We picked up a few drunks which is always interesting and then headed home,,,, Back to it again tonight!

Police News: Las Vegas Officers Give Ticket to Teen in Coma

I don't like to pass judgement on the decsions of other officers, But all I will say about this story is that timing is everything.

Here's the story below:

The mother of a 13-year-old accident victim lashed out at Las Vegas Metro police on Wednesday, accusing officers of being insensitive when they issued her daughter, who had just been hit by a car, a jaywalking ticket in the hospital.

How cold could you really be? asked Kellie Obong, a cab driver whose daughter, Takara, has been in a medically induced coma since the accident on Tuesday afternoon near Durango Drive and Rochelle Avenue.

Police said the girl wasn't in a crosswalk.

That was not the time or place to come and hand me a jaywalking ticket for my child, Obong argued.
Obong said her daughter was trying to keep up with her friends as they crossed the street, when she was hit by the oncoming car.

She hit the windshield, flipped three times in the air and from the point of impact to where her body was Metro told me she was 125 feet [away], Obong said.

Takara Obong was hit by a car the same day Metro released a report that showed the number of accidents involving pedestrians dropped from 619 in 2009 to 613 in 2010.

However, the number of fatal pedestrian accidents increased from 22 to 29, police said.

Night Shifts

Hello all,
Now that my two day shifts are past, tonight I'll start my night shifts. The way that this cycle works is my favorite, my night shifts fall on Friday and Saturday nights, which mean non-stop fun....

In 20yrs I still hope my tune doesn't change, I see Friday and Saturday nigh as fun, because it's alot busier and the calls seem it be alittle bigger...

I Thing I see with Officers that have over 20yrs on the job they rather just drive around and have no calls and maybe lay their head back and relax, where as the new guys have the fire and race each other to calls wanting to get in the action.

I think this is like anything in life, you need to find ways to check the fun in everything, once you start treating something like a job or a choir you won't want to do it... That goes for Jobs, relationships and fitness..

So I say to you, this year have fun, laugh at whatever your out there doing...

A Country mourns

A Whole country watched as a group of young men collasped under the weight of their country....

Last Night I rushed home after work to watch team Canada bring home the gold medal like everyone expected. At the start of the tournment nobody picked Canada to win gold, but like they always do they ended up in the gold medal game.

When Canada was up 3-0 againest the Russians that couldnt sustain pressure the whole country relaxed, the problem is that it looks like Team Canada did as well. Team Canada didnt show up in the 2nd period and the thrird period is where the epic collapse happened.

The only thing that I wished happend was a goalie change after the 3 stright goals by the Russian, you could tell the young goalie had his foundation rocked and a change was needed. But whatever, and we are proud of the Young men that brought home Silver.

It's Cheap night at the Movies, So I'm off to see True Grit.... This is a remake of a Old John Wayne Western. I grew up loving John Wayne and Westerns so I can't wait!

UPDATED:
Just got back from True Grit, I must say it was the best movie I saw all year, I know the year is still young but if this was still 2010 I'd say the same.

The Movie offered some great laugh out loud moments, Action and sorry ladies no real romance to speak of ;)
